Welcome to Day 5 of our series, From Chaos to Calm: 15 Weeks to a Happy Home. Today we’re talking about how God’s incredible mercy. He loves you so much!

New Mercies Every Morning @ AVirtuousWoman.org

Hi Ladies! Can you believe we’re finishing up the first week of this 75 day challenge? How have things gone for you? I hope and pray that you’ve felt the presence of God working in your life – even if things have been a real challenge.

Change is not easy and if Satan thinks he can discourage you, he’s going to give it his best effort. So, rather than let that get you down, let’s hold fast to God’s Word and His promise to help us in our time of need.

Today I have a free printable daily Bible reading chart for you and you’ll find the podcast and video. God bless you!

Note: Since I wrote this devotion a few years ago – my children are older and I no longer have puppies, but I decided to leave this one like it is.

Have you experienced God’s mercy this morning? Think about it.

When my alarm went off this morning, I hit the snooze button. I thought… Just a few more minutes! But then, just then, I heard my little puppies beckoning me awake. They needed to go out! Fueled by the need not to feel guilt, I got out of the bed. I was greeted by the freshest morning air – wonderful and crisp. I breathed in the fragrance of the morning still wet from yesterday’s rain. What a perfect way to meet the day!

Instead of taking my walk this morning, I felt the need to kneel down in my prayer corner and pray over the concerns of my heart. Despite my puny faith, my sometimes appalling lack of belief – HE NEVER FAILS ME. There are so many times that I do not expect my God to come through for me. I don’t even expect anything. How horrible is that? And yet He is still faithful!

There is a wonderful story in the Bible of a father whose son had an evil spirit in him. The father, desperate for help, asked the disciples to see what they could do. However, they were not able to help him. So the father pleaded with Jesus, “Help him if you can!” Jesus replied, saying, “All things are possible to him who believes.”

Now right there we should say, “Wow!” I mean Jesus tells us all we need to do is believe! But unfortunately, much too often I am like the father who cried out, “and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” (Mark 9:24).

In other words, this man believed and yet was full of doubt. How often do you doubt the faithfulness of your Loving Savior? Do you ever feel like there is no way He would help you? Do ever feel like your problems are not God’s concern or that He can’t help you?

Sometimes life doesn’t go the way we want or expect. Sometimes we have so much hurt and sorrow that we don’t know what to do. Those are the times we most need our God. Turn to Him in your pain and sorrow, He is faithful to help you and you will learn much about HIM as well as yourself.

Psalm 119:71 says, “It is good for me that I have been afflicted, That I may learn Your statutes.” We learn valuable lessons trough our trials. Be thankful and praise His name! God is faithful!

Don’t forget to write down your prayers, verses, and other thoughts into your prayer journal – and mark the date!

  1. I've already read thru this series once and loved it! It's just as great the second time! Thank you for posting :)
  2. My family had been through a very awful experience about 6 months ago and we are beginning to heal from that. After it happened, I was convinced that God wasn't in the details and that our life just wasn't as important to Him asninhad hoped. I knew it wasn't true, but at the time that's how I felt. God completely used this devotional today to remind me that He does care, my timing is not His, He has a wonderful plan for me, I need to be patient, and that if I DELIGHT myself in Him, He will give me the desires of my heart. I am going to be praying these verses all day.
  3. All of these posts seem to be very well-timed! I woke up this morning not wanting to get out of bed at all. I have found myself slowly slipping into a depression these past few days over some personal issues of mine. I sometimes forget that God is truly in the details! This is definitely giving my day a new perspective and I will thank God for my trials and for everything he has already blessed me with. Thank you, Melissa!
  4. I'm loving this study! I never really noticed how much discontentment comparing myself to others can cause. My eyes were opened today to that. Isn't it great how God works!I'm so thankful for all He does for me and my family and so thankful for likeminded people who make our walk here more pleasant.
    1. Selina, comparing ourselves to others is an even bigger problem these days, IMO, because of the internet. Through facebook, twitter, blogs, pinterest, etc... we only see what people want us to see. As wonderful as all of that it is... real life is not perfect, but even an imperfect life is still extraordinary!
  5. I've know I've been discontented when my husband comes home and I know he just wants to come home to a happy home. I've just been discouraged about a lot of things and most of that comes from not feeling good and feeling like I have so much to do. I've been praying more just to feel peace. I really want to be cheerful when my husband comes home. Thank you for your suggestion of a prayer journal.
  6. I'm so blessed to have life alone. Life isn't perfect but otherwise it wouldn't be life. Up again doing devotion and breakfast.... Update ....my husband without saying anything at all knowing I'm trying to begin and end my, our days with my silent prayers has opened prayer outloud in bed before getting up.... It's an awesome feeling and I have yet to appreciate him and thanking him for that and more. I do daily but it's Just amazing him doing this and nothing being said. Thank you Jesus. Hope all you ladies are gaining or at least opened mind and heart more than before prayers with you all. Amen
  7. How have I been blessed? In so many ways it's almost hard to count them. Just this morning, your daily reminder rings on my iphone and I knew that the snooze button my mind had pushed was making a ring. LOL. Since this is monsoon season usually we have cloud cover today the sun was playing peek a boo. The dogs and cats weren't knocking the door and it was refreshing in temperature. Since both my husband and I are disabled (it is. my "job" to be his care giver and help him with most everything) I have to get up earlier than usual on dr. apt. days. He woke up to his alarm and said "you need the rest just rest/ah sleep for a bit. You'll get up in time." That was another blessing. Having this phone thingy is a back door blessing. I can at times just barely see I'm legally blind so simple is sometimes better however having it means I get to have this challenge. PRAISE THE LORD. I like the gratitude journal. I'll make one today. Thank you Mellisa
  8. Wow, today was exactly what I have been feeling for the last year with so many and 1 in particular personal struggles. I am the believing doubter. Today and all week through my studies it has been shown that all things are possible to him who believes. I thank God for bringing you into my life. I know it will take time, but I am truly starting to feel a little pearl of peace in my heart.
  9. I have been using Life Planner systems for 40 years. I began with one titled THE BELIEVER'S LIFE SYSTEM, WOMEN'S VERSION back in the '70s. When I could no longer find it, and because I had reconstructed so many of the forms/pages to fit my style and circumstances, I have been creating my own since! I prefer the 5x8 3 ring binder because of its portability. My 'system' includes a Ministry of Encouragement notebook, a Personal Medical Record notebook, several Archive notebooks (by year), a Spiritual Journey notebook that contains sermon notes, devotional notes, a Prayer Journal, Scripture Memory/Meditation section, and lastly, my Carry Notebook which contains calendar, schedule and To Do lists, my Prayer List, and Daily Docket. From time to time, there are additional sections that I carry - seasonal in nature. Most of my forms/pages are handmade with ruler and pen. It has become a bit too laborious, so I have been "shopping" around for something pre-made that I might use now that I am retired and not raising a family. What I have seen here seems to be created for the larger binder. Do you have the 5x8 options?
