The Creation Diet

In the beginning when God created man, He intended for His people to eat a diet of fruits and vegetables. Since nutrition plays such an important role in our health and our overall health often determines how we feel during the day which in turn can either make or break the daily tasks. When we feel good and have lots of energy we work diligently and accomplish more than when we feel sluggish and sickly.

A diet full of healthy fruits, vegetables, beans, seeds, and nuts will help you to prevent disease and illness. Living foods are always better than dead foods.

A vegetarian diet has been proven over and over again to promote long life. Concerns that a vegetarian does not meet nutritional requirements are raised by some, however, by eating a balanced diet and a wide variety of foods, a vegetarian meets the nutritional requirements suggested by ADA and provides numerous health benefits:

“It is the position of the American Dietetic Association and Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned vegetarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate and provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritional benefits, including lower levels of saturated fat, cholesterol, and animal protein as well as higher levels of carbohydrates, fiber, magnesium, potassium, folate, and antioxidants such as vitamins C and E and phytochemicals. Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer.” (1)

I’ve been a vegetarian since 1998 and I can attest to  the many ways I and my family is healthier and feels better ever since.

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Now God had brought Daniel into favour and tender love with the prince of the eunuchs.

“And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.

“Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse (2) to eat, and water to drink.

“Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the children that eat of the portion of the king’s meat: and as thou seest, deal with thy servants. So he consented to them in this matter, and proved them ten days.

“And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king’s meat.” Daniel 1:8-15

Here are five health benefits of a vegetarian diet:

  1. Reduce or Prevent Heart Disease, America’s #1 Killer.
  2. Prevent Cancer.
  3. Lose Weight and Keep it Off
  4. Live longer – up to 10 years {with a better quality of life}
  5. Reduce your risk of other diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, gout, and more.

It is not a sin to eat meat, however, you will feel healthier, look better, and will live longer by eating a vegetarian diet(3). If you can’t see yourself giving up meat entirely, I encourage you to plan meatless meals into your diet or incorporate Meatless Mondays (4) into your meal plans for your family’s health.

  1. I have been a vegetarian for most of my 57 years. I gave birth to two healthy (thank God) chidren. I have no serious health problems. My doctor said to keep doing whatever I'm doing because it's working. I feel very blessed. God's ways are the best ways!
  2. Dear Melissa, I feel very overwhelmed and do not know where to start. I have a household of 7 and most are overweight including myself and my husband who are at least 100 lbs overweight each. I want so much to have a healthy home but I need help. I work outside of the home and need to start off eating things that they will try and do not take to long to prepare. I was making breakfast for them everyday before work after listening to devotion however I thought a good breakfast was sausage, egg, and cheese muffin. Now what do I make them? I believe incorporating less meat and more fruits and veggies sounds great but my where do I strt?
    1. Hi Channon, I'm so glad you're trying to eat healthier! And thanks for asking such a great question! A good healthy breakfast might include: - homemade oatmeal - I like to top mine with nuts, dried cranberries or pineapple, brown sugar or maple syrup, a spoonful of cocunut oil hemp seeds, and milk or almond milk - cream of wheat - I like to top my with maple syrup, help seeds or honey toasted wheat germ and milk or almond/soy milk - sliced fruit or a fruit smoothie - yogurt parfait - granola - cheerios, special k, raisin bran - toasted english muffin with a little butter and honey or fruit preserves - multigrain toast with a little butter and fruit preserves - veggie fajitas - yogurt topped with honey, fresh berries, and nuts - huevos rancheros con frijoles {toasted corn tortilla topped with refried beans and a fried egg and lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, etc.} In our house we often eat leftovers from supper for breakfast - so you might find us eating vegetable soup with biscuits, leftover stir fry, spaghetti, or sweet potatoes {etc.} for breakfast. Breakfast should provide you with healthy fuel for the day and really is the most important meal of the day. I hope these ideas help!
  3. I have been a vegetarian since 1992 and have eaten a whole food plant-based diet since 2007. I am now 64 yr old & can testify to the healthfulness a plant based diet provides. Going through menopause was not difficult at all. I still run 5 or more times a week and hike in the mountains of Colorado. Friends who have consumed a lot of dairy and a lot of lean meat have had a rough time with this stage in a woman's life! Although eating meat is not a sin per se, I kind of wonder if it isn't God's perfect will for us to not eat it & his permissive will to allow us to.
  4. Thank you for talking about vegetarianism today. I have felt that calling, answered it, gone back to eating meat and back again over the years. Many years ago I ate the food combining way and felt my absolute best - it is vegetarian but also a conscious way of combining the foods you eat. I completely cut dairy for two years and also fed my young children this way. Somewhere along the way it crept back in and kids were fed things at other people's houses and it became so hard... After reading your post I feel compelled to revisit vegetarianism. I need God's help and want to have a clear head. The stress here is so high, as it is for you all... Love and prayers...
