From Chaos to Calm: Day 59

You can read all of the posts in this series here.

Scripture Memory: “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” Acts 17:11

If ever there was a time when Bible Study was needed, the time is now! We need to be personally studying our Bibles each and every day as well as instructing our children in the Bible daily. But what about teaching and growing with others? There are people in your church, in your neighborhood, and in your community who are in need of a relationship with Jesus Christ.

By opening your home to a Small Group Bible Study, you will have the opportunity to reach others for Christ. Jesus commanded us to go and teach others. He wasn’t just telling the preachers to go out and spread the gospel. As Christians this is our commission – that we be witnesses for Him and that we teach others His ways.

How to Start a Home Bible Study

How do you get a Small Group Bible Study going? Well, first you need to pray and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you as you seek out people to study with and as you choose the topics for study. Prayer is ALWAYS the first step.

Decide who you want to invite. Do you want to focus mainly on people from your church? Do you want to use the time for outreach into your community? Do you want to use it for making friends with neighbors whom you might not know very well?

Decide what you want to study. This should be a great matter of prayer. Choose something that will be interesting to the group. You can do a book Bible study or even write your own if you want to teach the class. And be sure you understand how to study the Bible.

Make up invitations. These can either be a small card or flyer. Pass them out at church or find a partner to help you go door to door in your neighborhood to invite others. Schedule the study for in the evening {or morning if that works better}, and encourage the ones you invite to bring someone with them.

Provide snacks and drinks for your guests or ask each person to bring something small to share with the group. Here’s some great appetizer recipes you can try.

Before the study begins, always have prayer. Ask for God’s wisdom and guidance as you lead and study that His Words will be clear to you. Studying the Bible with others will always bring a blessing not only to the ones you are studying with, but for you as well.

Have you ever hosted or attended a home Bible Study? What was your experience?

  1. thank-you, so much for your website. I am having trouble lately with" being real" and the people in church. God knows we are not perfect, yet we should strive to be. And strive it is! Why do so many people wear so many masks?
    1. Hi Joni, I totally understand. I'm a pastor's wife and no matter what is going on in my personal life - I have no choice but to put a smile on my face and walk into church happy. But for pastor's wives - that's just part of the fishbowl life we live. For the rest... well, I think people wear masks because they are so afraid of being rejected or judged or disliked. They know the truth about themselves and it scares them. Being authentic with people though... is just so important. It allows others to be real too and opens the door to healing and for true friendship. Being loved, and knowing your forgiven - that's real freedom. God bless you!
  2. Dear Melissa, May God richly bless you for this wonderful website. I learned a lot from it and I even bought the life planner you prepared. It is in such a beautiful way prepared. I am going to start using it today. I am quite sure that I am going to live a planned and ordered life with the help of this planner. I am inspired by your advices and understanding of the real problems of women like me and giving reasonable and down to earth solutions. May God continue to bless you richly. Hanna from Germany
