From Chaos to Calm: Day 61

Scripture Memory: “Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?” Psalm 77:13

Let’s take a look around your bedroom. What do you see? Is it neat and orderly? Is it warm and inviting? Does your bedroom bring comfort and nurturing?  Or, is it littered with clutter, unfolded laundry, and lack personality?

Have you ever walked into a nice hotel room and just felt at peace? If you have, then you know that a clean, attractive, clutter free environment offers a respite from the worries of this world.

The Master Bedroom

In our rush to get through life, it is easy for the sanctuary of our Master Bedroom to be pushed to the “back burner” where it becomes forgotten. I know from experience that it is all to easy to “shut the door” of my bedroom and pretend like the whole house is clean, hoping guests don’t wander into my personal space. When it seems like you are always running and always behind, the Master Bedroom can easily fall into the category of “as soon as I find the time….” chores that never really get done!

In these last days, with stress and frustrations that seem a required part of life, we all need a respite from the world! Home should offer our families that respite. The Master Bedroom should offer our marriage that respite. Look around your room. Really look at it. Ask yourself some questions:

  • Is the paint color something we love?
  • Are the linens drab?
  • How can I make this space more attractive?
  • How can I effectively deal with clutter that is robbing my space of peace?

Make a list of things that need to be tended to in the Master Bedroom and come up with a plan of action. Perhaps you only have time to tackle one drawer a day or one pile a day. That’s okay! The results of a clean, organized, pleasing space will be worth it. And if you have time to set aside a day to get it done, even better!

Ask God to show you how you can better serve your marriage with a clean Master Bedroom. Then, ask Him to keep you accountable on a daily basis. It only takes a few minutes in the evening and morning to keep your bedroom a space that is desired!

What can you do today to make your master bedroom a sanctuary?

  1. Very interesting this article on the master bedroom. Sometimes I feel like i am the only Christian that has a cluttered messy bedroom with the rest of the house neat and orderly. The Holy Spirit has been showing me that my bedroom represents my heart, and the rest of the house is my outer appearance, I look like I have it all together, but on the inside I am a MESS :( Praying and asking God to help me take better care of me. to clean up my heart and treat myself with respect and treat myself to a beautiful clean and peaceful bedroom. A "sanctuary" where I can close the door on the worrys of the world and feel at peace within myself. Thanks for reminding me to not put this on the "back burner" any longer! ;)
