Finding time for daily devotions isn’t the easiest when you’re a busy mom. Especially when you have little ones! But the thing is, life goes so much smoother when you take time to read and pray every day.

Best Devotionals for Busy Moms @ AVirtuousWoman.org

As a busy mom, finding time for devotions can be a challenge and if you have little ones your schedule is probably filled to the brim from the moment your feet hit the floor in the morning. Daily prayer and devotion gives your mama heart the grace it needs to get through the day.

Getting creative about how and when to find time for prayer and study is helpful. In fact, your devotion time doesn’t have to look like mine – or your best friend’s – or anyone’s. You can make that time unique to your own life season and circumstances.

I understand the struggle. As a mom of five, there were a lot of years when it was near impossible to find time to just be still and find time to pray and reflect on God’s Word.

I’ve said before that if you aren’t able to have a morning devotion alone, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a short devotion with your children present or even using that time for family worship!

It’s so much easier to feel discouraged, impatient, and frustrated when we aren’t staying connected to Christ and focused on His Word speaking to us.

Even spending a few minutes each day is enough help you feel more peaceful and less stressed and more connected.

It is of the Lord‘s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22,23

In fact, you can pray right now and ask God to help you find time time and even the right resources to help you spend time in devotion each day. Ask Him to press on your heart what time of the day will work best for you during your current season of life whether it be early mornings, at lunch time, before bed – or anytime.

The Woman at the Well

I’m reminded of the story of the Samaritan woman by the well:

“Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. But He needed to go through Samaria.

So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

John 4:1-15

The Living Water

Did you catch that? She says the well is deep and Jesus tells her that if she drinks from the living water will never thirst again.

YOU are the deep well.

Jesus is the living water. Drink up.

Hope for the Weary Mom Devotional: A 40-Day Journey

Hope for the Weary Mom Devotional: A 40-Day Journey by Stacey Thacker and Brooke McGlothlin. This weekend I was talking to a friend about how hard parenting can be sometimes. My two youngest are teens and it’s still hard sometimes. When you’re children are little, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and weary. This book is for you.

About this book:

Jesus promises rest to those who seek Him. But how can a weary mom find rest in Jesus when she doesn’t know Him? How can she build her life on the truth of His Word when she doesn’t know it? Hope for the Weary Mom Devotional offers 40 truths every mom needs to know in a devotional format—easy for a busy mom to fit in her life. Discover how to

  • live dependently upon Jesus as His Word becomes more rooted in your heart.
  • move from weariness to hope in your God-given role as mom.
  • focus on who God is and how He moves and works in your life.

Each devotion includes a prayer, Scripture, and questions for reflection. You’ll be moved to deeper truth and be left with a hunger for more of God’s Word.

How long should your devotion time last?

There is no one right way to spend your devotion time. In fact, I would go as far as to say that your devotion time will probably look different during this season of your life than it will in the next season of your life.

If you’re a mama of a little one – or two, or three! – your available time isn’t going to be as much as an empty-nester. And that’s okay.

God doesn’t forsake us during our most busiest time of motherhood! He’s right there next to you. You can talk to Jesus any time of the day! And with your eyes open!

But here’s the truth.

You need God. You really truly do.

And while He’s always right there, ready to listen, you’re not likely to hear His voice if you aren’t reading His Word. You need to take time each day to read and listen.

But how much time? Especially when time seems stretched so thin?

In the book Hello Mornings: How to Build a Grace-Filled, Life-Giving Morning Routine, author Kat Lee says, “We know we should have a quiet time every day, but that somehow leads to feelings of guilt when we don’t achieve it. The problem is that when we feel guilty, we tend to avoid. Have you ever noticed that? If you don’t have time for your normal God time, you move it to later in the day or skip it altogether. Then, the next morning, you feel so guilty about it that you skip it again.”

Can you relate to that? I know I can! But, friend, God gives us amazing grace! He heaps it on us because he loves us so much! It’s time to let go of the guilt and bask in His grace!

Kat Lee goes on to say, “So many of us skip or miss our morning God time because we think we don’t have time. But when we break it up… we can recognize we always have time to start our day with God, even when we don’t have time for in-depth Bible study or journaling.”

She suggests that we begin by simply memorizing and praying Psalm 143:8 each morning. She says you can do it before you even get out of bed.

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” Psalm 143:8

So, you can let your day begin with that one small act of faith. And if you are able to do more, you can. But begin with that.

The books above have short devotions that can be read in just a few minutes. You could even stash one of those books in the bathroom if you find that’s the only time you have alone to think.
