Yesterday we talked about Determining Your Priorities. Today we’re going to look at how to create goals and make plans based on those priorities!

How to Set Priorities Based Goals

Remember back in school when your teacher had you create an outline before you wrote that essay? Outlines are great and can be used for more than just writing essays or short stories.

Now, you don’t have to write an outline, but for my example I’m going to share with you an example of what my goals might look like based on my priorities. At the end of this post, you can download you my Priorities Based Goals Outline Worksheet.

Please remember, setting goals is not meant to be a frustrating experience. If you don’t reach your goal as soon as you’d like or if you have set backs – that’s totally okay! Give yourself grace and start over tomorrow.

Priority: My Relationship with Christ.

GOAL #1: Spend time each morning in prayer.

Steps I need to take to reach my goal:

  • Wake up each morning consistently at 6:00 am.
  • Set my alarm clock across the room so I have to get up and turn it off.
  • Create a space in my house dedicated to my prayer and study time.
    • Comfortable chair.
    • Blanket.
    • Basket with my Bible, devotion book, journal, and pen.
    • A scented candle
  • Explain to my husband that I want to spend 30 minutes in quiet time each morning so he’s not tempted to interrupt.

Priority: My Relationship with my husband.

GOAL #1: Plan a fun date night twice a month with my husband.

Steps I need to take to reach my goal:

  • Contact baby sitter and discuss times.
  • Visit The Dating Divas Blog for ideas and make a list.
  • Make a promise with my husband not to talk about stressful things on our dates.

GOAL #2: Show my husband I love him on a daily basis.

Steps I need to take to reach my goal:

  • Write love notes at least once a week and leave them in places he will find them.
  • Kiss him for 15 seconds when he comes home from work.
  • Bring him his favorite drink when he sits down to relax.
  • Let him hear me brag on him in public.

So there’s a couple of examples for you. I could go through each of my priorities and write down each goal and priority.

  1. Hello. I am a 61 year old Christian lady, so I don't have children at home, but I do have a husband. I have been working at having goal setting days. I have a hard time with consistancy. I am thinking that working on this project along side you will help me stay on schedule better. I know full well how "plan B" can have to go into effect some days. I am ok with that. I just needed something like this to help keep me focused!! Thank you!!
  2. Thanks for the reminders . I used to teach Project Management for not for Profit managers which has a component on goal setting and prioritising, and this is so helpful to apply it to your everyday needs. You have inspired me this morning to look inwardly at my life relationships work and apply this. have a blessed day
  3. I love this post. This fall I've been trying to start my day by reviewing Proverbs 31 and then, as I plan my day, I try to make sure my priorities are lined up the way God intends them to be. I know that seems obvious, but if I don't intentionally think about it, I get off course. I really appreciate your blog and your ministry. Aimee www.lifetimeorganiziing.com

  6. I am a Christian woman trying to blog about life struggles and joys with God’s help...more often than not, life just kinda takes over and even the writing can become a struggle. I also find that as soon as I make goals in certain areas of life, that is where I am attacked... I appreciate your input in the goal setting area, and I even love your listed example! Thank you!
  7. I really like the virtuous woman teachings -- I just would like to see more for "widows" who have been divorced or just plain discarded ... woman who have been discarded and the LORD has taken up. I know "husband" things can just as well apply to the LORD, since He has promised He is my Husband ... but just the same, it would be nice. Is. 54 woman.
