Christian homeschooling is more than just education—it’s a way to raise children who are rooted in faith and virtue. As a Christian parent, you know that the values and principles that guide your children are of utmost importance. You have such a huge responsibility! Homeschooling, apart from its academic benefits, can be an great tool to nurture your child’s faith and teach them biblical truths.
As a veteran homeschooling mom of 23 years, I can attest to the benefits of homeschooling your children and instilling a biblical worldview through their education. When I started homeschooling in 1998, I didn’t know anyone else who homeschooled their kids. Today, over 2.5 million students are homeschooled in the United States.
Homeschooling may not be right for every family, but it can be an excellent choice for conservative Christian families where 77% of homeschooling parents are Christian. Today I’m sharing a step-by-step guide on incorporating these values into everyday homeschooling lessons.
Homeschooling with a Conservative Christian Perspective
For many conservative Christian families, homeschooling represents more than simply an educational choice – it is a declaration of faith. By opting to homeschool, parents can ensure their children are immersed in a learning environment that upholds their Biblical beliefs, values, and teachings.
Some of the advantages of Christian homeschooling are:
- Homeschooling allows parents to incorporate their religious beliefs into their child’s education.
- Many homeschooling curriculums are available that are specifically designed to incorporate Christian values and teachings.
- Parents who homeschool have the ability to shield their children from secular influences often found in public schools.
- Christian homeschooling families often report a stronger bond and better communication within the family.
- Christian homeschooling can help children develop a personal relationship with God and a deep understanding of their faith.
There are a lot of benefits to teaching your child from a Christian perspective! As you participate in their learning process, you can blend their intellectual growth with Christian values.
As a Christian family, homeschooling provides you with a unique opportunity. It allows you to create an environment that reflects your values. And you can provide a secure environment away from potentially harmful influences that are often found in a typical school setting.
Nurturing a Biblical Worldview Through Homeschooling
When homeschooling, one of the significant advantages you have as conservative Christians is the flexibility to anchor your child’s learning experiences in scripture and cultivate a Biblical worldview. Some of the ways you can incorporate your values into your homeschooling day are:
#1 Incorporating Bible Study: You can start each homeschooling day with a short bible study session. This routine not only imbues daily activities with spiritual significance but also helps children become familiar with the word of God. You can discuss what you read together and emphasize principles you want your children to understand.
#2 Services to Community: Another way to foster a Biblical worldview is by involving children in community service and charitable activities. Homeschooled students are more likely to participate in community service activities. Moreover, community service inspires humility, empathy, and generosity.
When my kids were growing up, community service was a part of our regular daily life. From putting together food baskets, collecting cans door to door, or helping out at our church’s clothing mission, they learned the value of ministry and giving back to the community through faith-based projects.
#3 Encouragement for Prayer: Include prayer times and encourage spontaneous prayer throughout the day. Help them understand that prayer is not just a set of formalistic rituals, but a powerful means to express gratitude, seek divine guidance, find solace, and nurture an intimate relationship with God.
Step-by-Step Guide to Incorporating Christian Values in Homeschooling
Starting the journey of infusing biblical principles into your homeschool curriculum can feel overwhelming at first, but with the right approach, it becomes a natural outflow of your faith and a rewarding task. Here is a step-by-step guide to help:
Step 1: Start with Prayer
Begin every day with prayer. Praying with your kids is so important! It not only reinforces the practice of quiet reflection and talking to God, but it also sets the tone for the day.
Step 2: Incorporate Bible Studies
Bible studies serve as the backbone of teaching Christian values. You can include biblical stories and characters in your lessons and encourage your child to delve deep into the interpretation of these texts. We loved using the Bible Story books in our early years of homeschooling too.

Step 3: Combine Christian Principles with Core Subjects
Core subjects like Math, Science, and English can also be taught from a Christian perspective. For instance, in Math, you can introduce concepts like stewardship and honesty when solving problems, science lessons can reaffirm the wonders of God’s creation, and English lessons can incorporate reading and analysis of Christian literature.
And of course, there are many wonderful Christian curriculums you can choose from that do a good job of incorporating a Biblical worldview into your child’s lessons.
Step 4: Lead By Example
Remember, you are your child’s primary role model. Exhibit Christian virtues like kindness, patience, forgiveness, and love in your interactions with your child and others. This will serve as a practical illustration of Christian principles.
Step 5: Engage in Community Activities
Involve your child in community service, church activities, and other volunteer events where they can practice the Christian principles they are learning. This helps them understand the importance of fellowship, service, and giving.
Step 6: Use Christian-based Resources
There’s a vast array of Christian-based homeschooling resources available both online and offline. These resources, including textbooks, online courses, DVDs, and apps, often have specific emphases on Christian values and teachings that can significantly help reinforce what you’re aiming to teach.
Step 7: Regular Evaluation and Feedback
Regularly reflect on how you feel like things are going in your homeschool. What things need focusing on? What things are going well? What character traits need working on?
Recognize that homeschooling is an ongoing endeavor that calls for regular reassessments. And remember your job is not to raise perfect children but rather to raise individuals who feel secure in their relationships. By teaching them how to have a healthy relationship with their Father in Heaven, you will lead them to make life long choices that align with their faith.
Infusing biblical teachings doesn’t mean every lesson must be explicitly religious, but weaving Christian values throughout your day can help your child develop a strong foundation of faith. Remember, incorporating Christian principles goes beyond just transferring knowledge; it’s about shaping your child’s character and worldview.
