I love to bake for the holidays. My family knows that there will be a wide assortment of goodies to munch on for days during the Christmas Season. It’s part of what makes Christmas special in our home!

I have to say this recipe is amazingly simple and soooo yummy! You simply cannot eat just one… or two.

Saltine Cracker Toffee @ AVirtuousWoman.org

Chocolate Toffee Bark a.k.a. Christmas “Crack”

  • 40 saltine crackers
  • 2 sticks of butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts {optional}

Cover a cookie sheet with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Arrange saltine crackers in a single layer to completely cover the cookie sheet. Bring butter and brown sugar to a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Be careful – this is very hot!!

Pour this mixture over the crackers, being sure each one is coated. Bake at 400 degrees for 5-7 minutes until bubbly.

Remove from oven and cover with 12 oz of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Let them melt for a minute before spreading evenly over the crackers.  Sprinkle 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts if desired.

Cool completely and break apart. If you put them in the refrigerator after they have cooled slightly,it makes it easier to break them apart.

Note: I have used a variation of pretzels {just cover the bottom of the tin foil lined cookie sheet} instead of saltines after seeing it suggested on another blog. In my opinion, the pretzels are not as good, but feel free to try if you like!

  1. Just wanted to bring to your attention that on the cookie swap invite, "your" should be "you're". Not meaning this as negative, but thought you might want to change it. :) I love your downloads, a very cute idea!!
  2. Melissa: This year threw us for a loop. Usually Christmas and Channukkah, (I know most people don't spell it that way but I checked and there are so many ways to spell the holiday it's not funny there is no definitive way to spell it and that is the way my Zeide taught me to spell it so that is how I spell it), come the same time at just about the same time. This year it came at Thanksgiving so our usual traditions did not work. But we usually decorate with the Menorah and Nativities along with the driedle and we combine the two holidays. I am a Messianic Jew and like to combine the holidays. The only holidays we don't combine is Passover and Easter. The way we see it Jesus arose on the Sunday after Passover so what we do for those two holidays is the same way it was celebrated in New Testament time. Passover and the Sunday after Passover is celebrated as Easter.
