My family loves these Sausage Cheese Balls. I always make a double batch. Mine are vegetarian, and I bet, if you tasted them, you wouldn’t realize it unless I disclosed that information to you. They are so good!

These Sausage Cheese Balls have just the right amount of moisture, never too dry, because they are made with cream cheese. They are the perfect snack for all sorts of special occasions like the Super Bowl, holiday parties, potluck, a picnic, a tailgate… and I’ll be honest, they make a tasty grab-and-go breakfast.

Sausage Cheese Balls with Cream Cheese

This sausage cheese ball recipe with no bisquick is so easy to make. I’m sure you’ll love this recipe!

  • 1 lb. sausage – I use Light Life Gimme Lean Vegetarian Sausage
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 4 oz. extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded – room temperature and soft
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne powder
  • 1/2 stick butter (1/4 cup)
  • oil for frying

So, I basically start by slicing the sausage and frying it in a little oil until browned on both sides. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl or in your Kitchen Aid Mixer {love mine!} add the remaining ingredients.

{Go ahead and preheat the oven to 400 degrees if you’re ready to bake now. You can save the dough in the refrigerator and bake as needed for several days.}

Allow the sausage to cool enough that you can break it up with your fingers into little bits and add the sausage to the rest of the ingredients. I usually mix the whole thing with my hands, but  sometimes I’ll use the dough hook on my mixer.

Once the dough is well combined and sticking together roll into balls about the size of a walnut and place on a lightly oiled baking sheet about an inch or so apart. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes or until the balls are lightly golden brown.

Once cooled, store in a air tight container. Serve and enjoy!

Note: You can usually find Light Life Vegetarian Gimme Lean Sausage in the produce section or health food section of your favorite grocery store.
