“May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.” Psalm 20:4 NIV
31 Days of Calm in My Chaos
So yesterday, we talked about 5 ways you can find peace in your everyday life.
- Set Priorities
- Set Boundaries
- Make a Plan
- Get Organized
Today I want to focus on Priorities. I have two questions for you:
- What are your priorities?
- Are you living your priorities?
Setting priorities is a little like setting goals. If you don’t make a point to know what your priorities are, it’s easy to lose track of what’s really important in the day to day grind of real life.
See that’s the problem. As each day unfolds with it’s bumps and busyness, often you end up spending countless minutes and hours doing things that seem important in the moment, but really, when you give it some thought… you realize you’re missing out on the most important things of all.
What really matters in the end? My list looks something like this:
- My relationship with Christ.
- My Family.
- My home.
- My church.
Your list might look similar. So, once you’ve determined your priorities it’s time to determine whether you are really living your priorities.
- Do you spend more time connected to social media than connected to your kids?
- Has your prayer life been stagnant lately?
- Does your husband feel like he comes in last?
- Do you find yourself frequently frustrated and short with your kids?
- Is your home neglected because you’re too busy being busy?
Of course, only you really know what’s going on in your life and home and maybe you’ve done a pretty good job of setting priorities and sticking to them in the past – that’s great! But often we have room to grow.
Like I said above, sometimes what seems important in the moment isn’t really all that important. For instance, that pressing email versus your toddler who wants to build a tower with you. Or, cleaning the living room before bed versus sitting on the bed with your girl chatting at bedtime.
Good time management and smart organization is really key to keeping your house neat and your busy life in balance so you DO have time for those things that are really important and ultimately have less stress and more happiness.
Today’s Goal: Write down how you spend every minute of today. You might want to keep track of your time for several days.
So what’s keeping you from living your priorities – living your best life?
