100 Best Juices for Kids by Jessica Fisher

I recently received Jessica Fisher’s new book, Best 100 Juices for Kids in the mail to review and let me tell you there are a lot of yummy, fresh juice recipes in the book!

I had my youngest child flip through the book and select a few recipes to try. And we’ve loved them all!

About the Book

The Table of Contents

  • Jazzy Fruit Juices
  • Brilliant Fruit & Vegetable Blends
  • Vivacious Veggie-Centric Juices
  • Super-Simple Smoothies
  • Spiffy Sports Drinks, Sparklies, Slushines, and Ice Pops

With 100 imaginative, healthy and great-tasting recipes for using your at-home juice machine, Jessica Fisher’s BEST 100 JUICES FOR KIDS brings the juicing revolution home for everyone in the family.

Jessica Fisher’s creative and tasty approach to juicing includes terrific, kid-friendly alternatives to juices loaded with additives and sugar without the expense of natural store-bought varieties. With ideas for both fruit- and vegetable-based juices, as well as Jessica’s expert advice on how to include more of both in nutrient-adverse kids’ diets in a way that children will actually enjoy, this cookbook offers a new take on a popular topic that gets everyone drinking more healthfully.

Outside of the extensive variety of juices in the book, Jessica also includes a number of other inventive ideas for smoothies (including several dairy-free vegan options), “sparklies” (club soda-based carbonated drinks), as well as icy slushies and juice-based ice pops. Throughout, Jessica offers advice on how best to make each recipe on both low-end and high-end juicers, and she provides expert guidance on how readers can get the best results from whatever model of machine they own.

Great for making use of extra produce, getting kids and young adults to drink healthier, and as a way to involve children in the kitchen, Jessica’s BEST 100 JUICES FOR KIDS is a much-needed addition to any home-juicers cookbook shelf.

Gazpacho Juice

Today I wanted to share this juice with you. The flavors are strong, but totally delicious! If your children are picky or maybe put off by strong flavors, Jessica suggests you add water to this juice to make it less strong.

“This juice tastes like salsa in a glass – but without the spice. Feel free to add a few dashes of hot pepper sauce for those who like a little kick. You’ll find yourself craving tortilla chips to munch alongside this drink.”

Makes 15 to 20 ounces

  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1 large red bell pepper
  • 1 medium lime
  • 1/2 small red onion
  • 2 handfuls fresh cilantro

1. Core the tomatoes. Trim the cucumber. Core and seed the pepper. Peel the lime if desired.

2. Juice the tomatoes, cucumber, bell pepper, lime, onion, and cilantro according to the directions on your juicing machine. Whisk to combine.

3. Add water to taste if you or your child prefer a milder juice.
