31 Days of Calm in My Chaos

Are you enjoying the series so far? I hope you are already feeling more peace, joy and calm in your life!

How’s your prayer life? On Day One, my first suggestion for finding peace was prayer.

So often, prayer goes to the wayside when we’re busy, overwhelmed or emotionally hurting. If you’ve ever been emotionally, physically, and/or spiritually exhausted, you may have found that you struggled to pray.

I’ve been there. It’s not that I lost my faith. It’s not even that I thought God didn’t love me. I just couldn’t pray.

Maybe you’ve been there. Maybe you’re there now. Maybe you’ve just been neglecting your relationship with Christ because your priorities weren’t lined up right. Whatever the reason, I want you to know that God longs to sit and talk with you! That’s why He created you. You’re his precious child.

I cherish those moments {like just now} when my children crawl onto my bed and just want to talk with me, share with me, or ask me questions. And God loves me even more than I could ever love my child – as hard as that is to fathom. His love is infinite!

If you are having a difficult time praying for yourself or because you feel a disconnect, there are a couple of things you can do to begin healing your prayer life.

  1. Pray anyway. Short prayers. Cry out to God. He does understand what’s going on in your life! Tell God you’re struggling to pray. Ask Him to heal you. Ask Him to give you that desire and ability to pray again.
  2. Ask others to pray for you. If you’re in a distressed emotional state sometimes you really do need to ask for help. Whether you find friends online, an online support group, or friends in real life, don’t be afraid to ask for prayer that God would heal your heart.

If you’ve just been lazy about praying… well, the only way to really change that is to make a decision to change! If you’ve been reading here at A Virtuous Woman for any length of time, you know that I suggest women do their best to rise earlier and have their prayer and devotion time before they get the day started.

Morning Prayer

It just makes sense.

If you have young children, IT IS OKAY to have your devotion time with them present if you make a commitment to do so.

For most women, morning is the best time of the day for prayer. Even if you’re not a morning person. People can change! Morning people get more accomplished as a general rule. Morning prayer and devotion just gets the day started off right.

Even Jesus woke early to have prayer before the hustle and bustle of the day.

“In the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away to a secluded place, and was praying there.” Mark 1:35

Try it. I promise you’ll be blessed!

Today’s Goal: Decide what time tomorrow you will have your prayer time and stick to it. If you are worried you’ll get lazy about it…pray now and ask God to help you keep your commitment to Him.

So, what’s been holding you back from having a consistent prayer life?

  1. Thank you so much for the years you have been doing this. Yet again in my hour of need you have washed away the panic and focused me securely on the Lord. Your love and honesty are beautiful gifts and I pray that the Lord will show you the fruit of your sacrifice daily. i am wheelchair bound with MS and my lovely Hubby and I start a church plant tonight. after a christmas fraught with people pleasing, I have just stopped repented and spent time in prayer. My energy hasnt encreased but I feel quietly confident of His arms around and under me and I know I will not only be ok but be able to be encouraging to others. I am so glad I decided to check my emails from christmas today!
