From Chaos to Calm: Day 57

Scripture Memory: “My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.” Psalm 71:23

Do you like to sing? Music adds so much to life. Well, I should say, good music adds much to life. What kind of music do you listen to? Are the words uplifting? Do the songs inspire you to serve God more – or less?

Studies have shown that children who listen to classical music from an early age learn better. It has also been proven that people learn better if the information is set to music. Advertisers use music to entice you to buy their products and they come up with catchy “jingles” that you can’t forget because they know you are more likely to spend money on that which is familiar.

Music that Inspires

Yesterday we talked about the importance of “cleaning out the trash.” But it is just as important to fill your home with good music, music that is uplifting, {music that inspires} as it is to remove that music which is sensual and immoral.

I have an under the counter radio/ CD player in my kitchen. I also love to plug in my Pandora radio station {Selah or David Carnes} and play beautiful music. I love to listen to it while I cook and clean. Playing gospel music or Christian praise music can have an impact on your entire day. It will lift your spirits and keep you in focus of what really matters.

Play music quietly while the children play or do their schoolwork. Keep the music going all day and you will be surprised at how it changes the atmosphere in your home.

And finally, music is very important during family worship. If you have not already, purchase several copies of a good music book that has songs kids and adults will enjoy singing.

Our favorite songbook to use during family worship is actually a book that was printed in 1952 called Happy Songs for Boys and Girls. Don’t let the title fool you – there are classics like Lift Up the Trumpets and Dare to be a Daniel that both parents and children can enjoy. (My youngest child’s favorite is Lift Up the Trumpets.)

Let inspiring music become a part of your life and the lives of your family members and you will find that “making a joyful noise” is something you do all day long!

What music inspires you?
