Learning to be grateful and practicing gratitude for the life you have isn’t always easy. But practicing gratitude, cultivating a spirit of gratitude is something you can learn to do. And by making it a habit to show gratitude, you’ll feel happier and more content.

The Proverbs 31 Woman is Lives a Life of Gratitude

The Proverbs 31 woman practices gratitude in her daily life and sings praises to God through out the day. Paying attention to the many blessing in your life is one way you can live out Proverbs 31 in your own life.

Using a gratitude prayer journal is a simple way to make practicing gratitude and being thankful to God a habit in your life each day.

Psalm 9:1 says, “I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”

Practicing Gratitude & Being Thankful to God

I 100% love the very definition of gratitude.

The dictionary defines it as, “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.”

Often, we think of gratitude as solely being thankful for what you have. But really, it must start in our relationship and walk with Christ. Spending time in His presence and telling Him how thankful you are for Him. Listing all the wonderful deeds.

In Psalm 9:1, it says though, that we should do it will all our heart!

But where do I start? The big stuff! The small stuff! God doesn’t care. First, He loves you being in His presence and truly embracing this quality time together:

“We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.” 1 John 3:24

After awhile you will find that your heart will be full of gratitude, and thanksgiving.

The little things that may have annoyed you before, you will develop a sense of patience, kindness, goodness. Because you have been spending time with your Father, and telling Him of all His wonderful deeds, you will develop a greater sense of the things that actually matter, and then the little things will not be such an irritant.

Scripture says in Matthew 7:15-20, “you will know them by their fruit.” When you are practicing gratitude, giving thanks, praising God, and being quiet and listening to Him speak to you intentionally, the fruits of the Spirit will shine through.

Through this time, you are spending with Him, you will be so full! So full of His fruit, that it will pour out of you! Not only will your friends, husband, and children notice, but so will you.

Gratitude Can Change Your Life

I mentioned earlier how it must start in your walk with Christ. Through this, and His outpouring of love on you, and greater understanding of the big, beautiful things in your life, where else could this change your life, even your relationships?

How could this change your marriage? Those small things might change your point of view because of your heart of gratitude. How can this change your relationship with your kids?

Maybe you have grown impatient, or frustrated, even hopeless. With a heart of gratitude, your kids may see things shift in you, and they may see an example of how they can practice gratitude. By showing gratitude you could change their lives too!

But the big question is, how can this change your relationship with yourself? Maybe you are unhappy with yourself for different reasons. I know I’ve been there.

But praising God, telling Him of all His wonderful deeds, and having this heart of gratitude, do you think that maybe that could even overflow into how you see yourself?

Maybe you start to see yourself the way your Heavenly Father sees you? This precious, beautiful, kind, patient, thankful, and grateful daughter who deserves more than how she is treating herself?

Giving so much more to everyone else, and she takes what is leftover by the end of the evening after everyone is in bed. Is there even anything else to give?

By practicing a spirit of gratitude, especially by praising your God, everything will shift. You will start to maybe develop fruits you once forgot you had, or truly utilize those you do possess, but maybe not entirely properly.

You will see the world different, and through the eyes of God. You will learn to be grateful again for the big things, and even the small things…like dishes!

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5

Amen.
