So, I mentioned in my goals for October that I wanted to begin Bible Journaling and get up the nerve to actually color in my Bible.

A few weeks ago I purchased a new Journaling Bible, really with the idea that I would enjoy the extra margin to write in and take notes while studying. Anyway, the more I thought about it though, the more I decided that I would also enjoy coloring in my Bible and personalizing it.

Getting Started with Bible Journaling

This weekend my daughter Emily came home from college for Fall Break and I gave her her birthday present – she turned 21 years old a few days ago!

I actually got the idea after a few weeks ago when she texted me a photo of a girl sitting in front of her in class with the caption: “Mom! She colors in her Bible!” It was this photo:

It was then that I decided I wanted to give her a new journaling Bible even though we had recently gifted her with a new Bible, plus a few basic supplies to get her started.

She opened her package and she was excited as I had hoped she would be. It was only minutes later that she climbed on my bed and began coloring a rainbow in her new Bible.

Emily is my artist. She has always loved to draw and I was so excited to see her get excited about this new form of creativity.

Three weeks ago we bought Hannah a new limited edition Journaling Bible and I hope to get one for all of my girls so we can share this together.

Basic Supplies to Get Started Bible Journaling

Here is a list of the basic supplies I bought for Emily and myself to get started coloring in our Bibles:

Inspired by Emily, I’ve currently colored three pages in my Bible. We spent Saturday afternoon at the park for a picnic and while the kids played and practiced gymnastics, I sat a the picnic table and worked on my first page – which was the same one that Emily had done. She had sketched out a rainbow onto copy paper and I used her sketch to trace it into my Bible for a fail safe first attempt.

Over the last couple of days I’ve completed two more pages just for fun. I hope to incorporate this more into my personal Bible study time. It was a relaxing way to spend my time! In order to trace the Genesis Coloring Page into my Bible, I had to reduce the image size to 55%. You might have to play with it to find the right size for your Bible.

I plan to spend more time considering how I want to journal in my Bible, but to get started I simply printed a couple of coloring pages that I could trace and color in. They have turned out really pretty and so easy to do!

Here are a few links to the coloring pages or images used for inspiration above.
