The Book of Revelation: Study #3

The book of Revelation begins with these words: “The Revelation of Jesus Christ…” The book of Revelation is a book about Jesus! Jesus is the main focus of the book – not to mention the entire Bible! Jesus is mentioned by His name or other title, or pronoun – 137 times in the first three chapters of Revelation and over 250 times in the entire book of Revelation! This leaves us no doubt who Revelation is about! Jesus shared these words with us because He wants to reveal himself to us!

So, to start this study let’s take a look at how Revelation describes Jesus:

“And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.” Revelation 1:13-16

  1. His garment is down to His feet.
  2. He wears a golden girdle.
  3. His hair is white like snow or wool.
  4. He has eyes like fire.
  5. He has feet like brass that has been burned in a furnace.
  6. His voice sounds like many waters.
  7. His face is bright like the sun.

In the book of Daniel, Jesus is described this way:

“I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.” Daniel 10:5,6 NIV.

What an awesome picture of Christ! His form is something to behold!

Revelation tells us that Jesus loves us and washes us from our sins with his blood. He has made us kings and priests!  Revelation 1:5-6 says, “and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Emphasis added.)

In fact, Jesus loves us so much that the plan of salvation was thought out even before sin entered this world. Jesus is “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” Revelation 13:8.

Ephesians :4-6 says, “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” Jesus chose you and me before He even created this world! That’s how much He loves us! He wants us to live with Him forever!

He wants our names to be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life! Let’s read about this special book. Read Chapters 4 and 5 of Revelation. Who is the One worthy of opening the sealed book? The “book” in Revelation 5 is not named, however, if we look in Revelation 3:5, 17:8, 21:27, and 20:12 you will find the book called “the Book of Life” or the “Lamb’s Book of Life.”

I love how Revelation 5:9 puts it: “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.” Can you imagine?

Only Jesus is worthy to open the Book of Life because only He knows who is saved and who is lost. Jesus alone cleanses our sins. Only He can make us holy because nothing we can do on our own will ever make us worthy. Jesus loves us so much that He died so that we might have eternal life! And it is only He who can present us “faultless before the presence of His Glory.” Jude 24.

Do you want to see Jesus face to face? Do you want your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life? All you have to do is follow Him!
