So ladies, I am so excited about today’s post. I finally – finally – finished my master bathroom. We’ve been in our old home for eleven years now. This bathroom used to have a pea green floral wallpaper on the walls and I wish I had taken a before photo, but my husband didn’t tell me he was going to pull it off when he did!

But here’s a before photo of the way the bathroom has looked for the last year since he pulled off the wallpaper. Super ugly, huh?

So, that was embarrassing! Our house was built in 1950 and the bathrooms are all very 1950. Notice the yellow tiles, the yellow sink, the yellow tub, and the yellow toilet. We actually replaced the toilet with this yellow one a few years ago and had the color matched at Lowe’s.

One of these days I’ll show you the green bathroom and the blue bathroom… if when those ever get a makeover.

It was really hard to decide on a paint color for this room. With so much yellow, I just didn’t feel like any color would look good. So we ended up choosing a color that nearly matches the tile.

I feel it made the yellow like a neutral. When I first started painting, the yellow seemed soooo yellow to me and I was worried I would hate it. But now, I’m just in love!

I made the valance a couple of years ago from a length of fabric and ended up not using it where I originally intended. Turns out that the colors were perfect for this room!

The shower curtain is a solid, yellowish/cream colored, fabric one that we’ve been using for years. And the blinds came from Wal-Mart.

Everything I decorated the bathroom with came from one of these stores:

  • Wal-Mart
  • Dollar General
  • Target
  • Big Lots
  • Hobby Lobby

I live in a very small town. We don’t have a Target or a Hobby Lobby. But, I do sometimes get to shop at those stores when we make the drive to Knoxville or Johnson City, TN. So I mostly shop at Wal-Mart, Dollar General, and Big Lots. Plus, I don’t have a lot of money. My husband is a pastor and things are tight. So shopping at those stores really falls in my budget.

So, let’s look at the after photos! I purchased all three of these bath mats at Wal-Mart. I love the mats on the floor! My accent colors in the house are teal and copper and when I saw these rugs, I knew they were perfect. The white mat is soft and fluffy and it was inexpensive. We put that down before taking a shower to protect the other rug from water.

Note: I realize my tile looks a little dingy. It’s 64 years old and the grout could use a refinishing.

We bought this teal blue cabinet at Target. My husband saw it and actually texted me a photo to see if I liked it. I love it.

There’s a basket in there that I house my personal products in. It came from Dollar General.

Uh, ignore the paint tray under the cabinet… for some reason I forgot it was there!

The white jar with the gold lid came from Target. It has a chalkboard label and I used my liquid chalk pen to write “Cotton” on it. Obviously I keep cotton balls in this jar!

The “Mr. & Mrs.” plague came from Hobby Lobby. I love to use their weekly 40% off coupon!

The antique Blue Mason jar came from Mr. Cooper who keeps my horses for me.

And the sweet flowers came from Wal-Mart. I happen to love Wal-Mart’s selection of silk flowers!

The hand towel came from Wal-Mart. It matches my rugs.

Above the cabinet is this sweet picture I found at Big Lots… It was on sale and I paid $15.00 for it. I loved the blue bike!

Sorry I don’t have a before photo of the mirror, but it used to be an off white color. I painted it black. Both of the paints – the yellow and the black came from Wal-Mart.

Next to the mirror – above the toilet, I found these sweet canvas pictures at Wal-Mart for $3.86 each. and the soap came from the Dollar Tree.

  2. Very nice,I like the way that you kept it decorated to fit in with the style of your home and not overly modern.I wish I had that kind of talent,I'm lucky if my socks match.
  3. Simple and elegant...love it! We just re-did our living room and hallway floors, and I added & updated many new pictures of our family to our walls. (With our two boys growing so rapidly, (3yrs&8months) I feel like I just get new pictures up, and then it's time to update again!) it certainly brings a nice fresh look and feel to our home! I love how you told us where you purchased the items you bought, isn't it amazing how many nice things you can find for cheap? I'm a frugal gal myself and always looking for a bargain. ;) congrats on a finished project...it looks great! ;)
    1. Thanks so much Maura! I love getting a good deal and honestly, I would rather pay a few dollars for something pretty at Dollar General than shell out a bunch of hard earned {and hard to come by} money for something similar. I love that you update your photos... I have a habit of leaving old photos ups for years without framing new ones. Thanks for the tip!
