I know mornings around my house are hectic to say the least. You’d think that since I’m down to just two kids in my house mornings would be easier, but the truth is we’re busier than ever! Today I’m talking about morning rituals for busy households – routines that will help you lessen the stress and chaos and get out the door on time.

Getting a whole family up, dressed, fed and out the door to school or work can be challenging. And
exhausting! Some mornings, it’s enough to make you want to crawl back in bed.

But, the morning can also be a great time to get a jumpstart on the day. A time when you can nurture
and nourish yourself so you can focus on your day ahead.

When you take time to take care of yourself and cater to your own needs and wellbeing, you’ll have
more time and energy to give to your family.

6 Morning Rituals for Busy Households

Here are 5 great morning rituals for you and your family to get your day off to a great start…

1. Quiet Time

If you’re able to wake up even a few minutes earlier, you can spend some time reading a short passage of Scriptures, reflecting on a verse, and talking to God. Prayer elevates your mood and reduces your stress – something we all need first thing in the morning!

2. Stretch
Bodies become a little stiff and tight from sleeping all night, especially if you slept in a strange position.
It’s always a good idea to do a little gentle stretching when you wake-up.
Give your body a good stretch before you even get out of bed. Then, when you get up, give your full
body a stretch by reaching your arms as high as you can and standing on your tip-toes to get your lower
body involved.

3. Get a good breakfast
Give yourself and your family some energy for the day by having a healthy breakfast. No time in the
morning to cook? No problem. Fix something the night before. A quiche will provide lots of protein
and you can make it with a variety of proteins, cheeses and vegetables. Or put some oatmeal in the slow-
cooker on low before going to bed and let it cook all night.

4. Prepare the night before
Take a few minutes in the evening to get yourself set up for a hassle-free morning. Place backpacks,
briefcases, keys and purse by the door along with shoes and coats. Have everyone lay out their clothes
for the next day before going to bed. And make sure all your devices spend some time on the charger in
the evening so they’re ready to go in the morning.

5. Spend a moment appreciating nature.
Spending just a few minutes outdoors, breathing in the fresh air and getting some sun, is almost always
an instant mood-booster. And a great mood will give you a little extra, much needed, energy. On nice mornings, why not take breakfast outside on the porch or in the backyard? Breathe in the fresh morning air and exhale slowly.

6. Check your planner.

Take a few minutes to review the days tasks in your planner. Add to your to do list if you need to, scratch things off, and check your menu. If you need to pull something out of the freezer do that now. Determine your top three priorities for the day and plan to do the one you dread the most first.
