Taking Sermon Notes

One of my favorite things to do each week is to take notes during the sermon. There’s something about the act of writing down what the pastor is saying that helps me to really focus.

Maybe it’s because I know I’ll be able to reference my notes later on, or maybe it’s just because seeing the words written out in front of me helps me remember them better. Either way, taking notes has become an essential part of my worship experience.

And as a pastor’s wife, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to sermons. I’m well aware of the fact that my mind is easily distractable!

Not only do I get more out of the sermon itself, but I also have a written record that I can refer back to later. It’s a simple practice, but one that has made a big difference in my spiritual life.

How to Use Printable Sermon Notes During Worship

For many women, writing down sermon notes during the worship service is a helpful way to reflect on the experience afterward.

You can print out the pages you want from this set (print as many as you want). Use the cover pages to slip inside the front and back binder sleeves. Cut out the size spine cover that correlates to the size binder you are using. Hole punch and then place the pages inside a 3 ring binder.

Here are some tips for how to make the most of sermon notes:

#1 Write down key phrases or ideas that resonate with you, rather than trying to transcribe the entire sermon verbatim.

#2 Use them to take worshipped-inspired action steps. As you listen to the sermon, allow God to speak to you about areas in your life where you need to make changes. Then, use your sermon notes as a reminder of those action steps throughout the week.

#3 Afterward, take some time to reflect on what you’ve written. What points stood out to you? What insights do you have about your own spiritual practice? Are there any questions or further thoughts that come to mind?

Taking time to write down sermon notes can be a helpful way to engage more deeply with the worship experience. By focusing on key phrases and ideas, you can gain new insights into your own spiritual practice.

By following these tips, you can ensure that you get the most out of your sermon notes and have a more meaningful worship experience overall.
