It’s time for our 8th annual Spring Clean Challenge! I am sharing excerpts from my e-workbook, Spring Cleaning for the Heart and Home available in the P31 Bookstore.

In our house, we’ve been adjusting to a new schedule – a new rhythm to our days and while it’s been hard in some ways, really, it’s simply a new season. I love routine, but my life is anything but routine. So… I have to constantly be adjusting. But, you know, it’s a good kind of crazy and I couldn’t ask for a better life. I’m incredibly grateful to God for the abundance of blessings in my life and for each one of my sweet kids who bring new adventures to each day.

You can purchase the 50 page e-Workbook, Spring Cleaning for the Heart and Home, for just $4.99.

Later in the challenge we’ll be looking at ways to get organized and keep our homes tidy. Are you ready?

Home is Where the Heart Is

Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Luke 12:34.

I have given this a lot of thought over the last few months. What is my heart focused on? I have realized once again how precious my family is; how sweet my home is to me; how much I treasure this gift of home God has given me.

There have been times when I have struggled with not feeling appreciated for the hours of work I put in each week at home and in ministry and for my large extended family. Do you resent the work you do at home and for your family? Where is your treasure?

“If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.” John 13:14.

Jesus came to serve. If the King of Kings could kneel down wash their dirty feet, how much more should we be willing to do?

Being a wife and mother or even a daughter or sister is often a thankless job. I can’t count the times I have had to do a thousand different tasks in a weeks period – at break neck speed – to only have people complain that something was left undone or not done perfectly.  It can be hard to take! We want to feel like what we are doing is noticed and appreciated.

If our joy is found when someone says, “Thank you so much. I know you worked really hard today. You are such a great person/wife/mom!” we will be disappointed time and time again.

We need to seek our joy, not in the people whom we serve, but in the Lord we serve. Jesus is the joy of our salvation. If we depend on our husband or children or friends to make us feel worthy of love and appreciation, we will be disappointed at some point.

Serving others should be something that comes from the depth of our hearts. We should feel joy simply from the act of serving, not from the praise we receive.

Is home where your heart is? Do you long to be some where else? Do you need to refocus your priorities? I want you to really look deep into your heart. Be still and listen to the voice of God.

Seek Him out… and listen.

  1. Got it done!! Onto the next challenge! I am bad about needing recognition. Not only that, but immediate gratification. That's why my weight suffers, working out and dieting take too long and I get frustrated. Thank you for coming up with this challenge and sharing it! This is my 2nd year doing it!
  2. I live in a house built in the 50s by my husband's grandparents. Since we've moved in we've put in a new kitchen, painted, ripped up carpet and changed other things to make this our home. I love that this house, although far from perfect, reflects us and has a great feeling of peace. I'm getting better at staying on top of housework, but the area I know I need to work on is the 'dumping room' - the office area where I pile up all the things I don't want others to see when we're having visitors or where things end up when they don't have a real place to live. Looking forward to this Spring Cleaning challenge, even though it's Autumn here :)
  3. I've been really struggling to get cleaning done around the house lately, but this is encouraging! Thank you for sharing the wisdom you received through your prayer!
