Welcome to the Purpose 31 Morning Devotions Podcast. Today we’re talking about asking God to give us a soft heart of flesh instead of stone. Do you feel like you’re not yielding to the Holy Spirit? Like you’re just going through the motions, but not living out your faith in God?

A Heart of Flesh

Thankfully, God offers us a fresh start. He can give us a new heart and clean spirit if we only ask for it. Today I’m talking about how God can replace our heart of stone with a new heart of flesh and we’ll discuss how to receive God’s gift of a new beginning.

Ezekiel 11:19 says, “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.”

Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

One day, Jill came home from work and checked the mail like usual when she saw a letter from her car dealership. To her shock, she learned that there was a recall on the make and model of her vehicle. And the brakes had failed in several people’s cars which resulted in people being hurt and even dying.

She thought about how lucky she was to have not had an accident! So the next day, bright and early, she arranged to take her car into the shop to have the brake system looked at.

Jill was so thankful that even though she had been at risk without even realizing it that no harm had come to her or her family. Her brake system was replaced with a new one and now she didn’t have to worry about them going out while she was driving.

Just like our cars need faulty parts replaced when they aren’t working properly, our human hearts also need restoring. The good news is that this is God’s specialty! He loves replacing our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh – meaning he can take a hard heart and make it soft and brand new.

In Psalm 51:10, the Bible says, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

God will do this for you! I’m so thankful for the gift of salvation and repentance. God is calling you to come to Him today and ask Him for a heart of flesh. All you really have to do is ASK. He’s waiting.

The three steps of repentance are:

#1 We must acknowledge our sins and ask God for forgiveness.

#2 We must be truly sorry for our actions and the pain and problems we’ve caused. We must have remorse in our hearts.

#3 We must commit to being obedient to God’s Word.

Let’s pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, please take my heart of stone and make it soft and yielding to your Spirit. Forgive me for my sins and take away any bitterness and hardness in my heart today. Thank you for being faithful and loving me. In Jesus Precious Holy Name, Amen.

Well, guys, thank you for joining me today Here at a virtuous woman, I believe you can find freedom from perfection and the confidence to live your life with purpose.
