How to Start Your Morning Like the Proverbs 31 Woman

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm143:8

Mornings are so important. How your morning goes really sets the tone for the rest of the day!! As a homemaker, it’s important to start your morning off right. Today I’m talking about how to start your morning like the Proverbs 31 woman. It could be life-changing!

Starting Your Morning Like the Proverbs 31 Woman @ AVirtuousWoman.org

How do you start your morning? Is it pleasant and peaceful? Trying to prepare your day to be one that is like Christ is no easy task, and it can be hard to even know where to start.

Turning to the Bible is a wonderful way to solve the problems we often face with a rough morning. In fact, Proverbs 31 gives us an outline on how you can start your morning in a way that is useful and pleasant for your entire family.

How to Start Your Morning Like the Proverbs 31 Woman

I went through the passage of Proverbs 31 and want to share how you can start your morning in the best way possible.

Rise Earlier than Everyone Else

“She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.” Proverbs 31:15

Waking before everyone can feel impossible at times- I completely get it. Whether you have a house full of little ones or your kids are out of the house, the Bible encourages us to rise earlier than everyone else in your home.

I’ve found the best way to help you rise early is to have a plan set out already. If you choose to spend time with the Lord, for example, have a gameplan set out the night before. Set out your Bible, prayer journal, and set the coffee pot for an automatic brew.

Setting a plan in place for your morning will help you start your morning earlier than everyone else. You will rise with a purpose instead of wondering what to do with those early morning hours.

Set Aside Time For a Morning Devotion and Prayer Time

“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

As mentioned earlier, making time for you and the Lord is one of the best ways to start your morning- just as Proverbs 31 directs us to. Luckily, there is no right or wrong way to do this- just start.

Even better news? This doesn’t need to take hours upon hours. In fact, there are also plenty of morning devotions for moms on the market. Choose one that can enrich your life and guide you closer to Him.

Trust me, spending time with your Heavenly Father is never wasted.

Have a Cheerful Disposition

“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” Proverbs 31:26

When I was growing up, my mom always woke us up with a sweet good morning song and a cheerful attitude. She’s still my example all these years later. My own kids have expressed their appreciation for starting the day with a cheerful word. My mom is a Proverbs 31 woman for sure.

Starting the day with a cheerful attitude and smiling at your family definitely makes a huge difference!!

A few weeks ago my daughter texted me this video on Tik Tok that featured a retelling of a mom yelling at her daughter every morning to wake her up. And she said she didn’t realize it at the time but she was lucky.

Put in the effort if you tend to wake up feeling grumpy. Your kids and husband will appreciate your cheerful demeanor. You have so much power to start the day right for your family!!

Focus on Your Husband’s Needs

“The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain.” Proverbs 31:11

Enriching your husband’s life is one of the most fulfilling ways to start your morning like the Proverbs 31 woman. Something as simple as pouring him a cup of coffee, packing his lunch, or intentionally speaking kind words to him before he begins work can make a tremendous impact on him.

As silly as it may sound, putting your efforts into improving your spouse’s morning will more than often improve your own morning. He’ll have a better day – and your marriage will reap the benefits of a good morning too.

Workout: Get Your Body Moving

“She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.” Proverbs 31:17

Ah yes, one of the oldest recommendations on the planet- wake up early and workout. While it may not seem like a top priority for you, having a strong body able to fulfill your tasks is asked of a Proverbs 31 woman. That means that we need to get moving and stay healthy.

One of my favorite tips to wake up early and workout? Set out your outfit the night before, including socks and shoes. That way, you can wake up, change, and head on that run or a workout class without any distractions.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

“She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.” Proverbs 31:15

Eating a healthy breakfast is such an important part of the morning routine! I’ve always believed breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I always eat breakfast and always make sure my kids eat something before we start the day.

Some of my favorite ideas for a healthy breakfast:

  • Overnight Oats
  • 12 Healthy Breakfast Ideas
  • Breakfast Oatmeal Station

Meal Prep for the Day

“She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.” Proverbs 31:15

Preparing your meals at the start of your morning is one of the best ways to make your entire day go smoothly. Are you one of the millions of busy moms that meal plan each week? Take a look at your meals for the day, do you have everything that you need or will you need to head to the market? Do you need anything to defrost throughout the day?

Checking on these things before the hustle and bustle of the day can help the entire day run smoothly for you and your family.

Get Started with Your Household Chores

“She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” Proverbs 31:27

Whether you work outside the home or stay home full time, getting started on your household chores first thing in the morning will make a huge difference in how your day goes as well as how smoothly your home functions.

If you work quickly, these tasks do not take very long. And if you are doing these tasks consistently, they take even less time. These are the tasks I suggest and recommend.

The Daily Tasks

  • make beds
  • tidy kitchen
  • load of laundry
  • sweep / vacuum floors
  • Bathrooms
  • 10 minute declutter
  • take out trash

The Weekly Tasks

  • monday: bathrooms
  • tuesday: floors
  • wednesday: meal planning and grocery shopping
  • thursday: sheets and towels
  • dusting and sabbath prep

Remember that the Proverbs 31 woman works with willing hands. When you do your chores consistently and with a cheerful mindset, your homemaking will be more enjoyable and your home will stay neat and tidy most of the time.

Not gonna lie. 2020 was a hard year. And not just Not gonna lie. 2020 was a hard year. And not just because there was a pandemic. Our family has faced many trying times in the past but 2020 gave us some doozies. I’m looking forward to a new year. The beginning of the new year always feels like a fresh start to me. It feels like HOPE. But the truth is, whatever heartaches and hardships you and I were facing on Dec. 31 will most likely still be there on Jan. 1. That’s why it’s hard to keep New Years resolutions. It’s easy to feel motivated for a few days or a couple weeks until we realize life hasn’t really changed and things are still hard. But if we want to see real change it takes hard work and real effort. It takes showing up every day - even when it’s hard. Whether that means working on your fractured relationships or setting healthy boundaries or cultivating self disciple... whatever that hard thing is that you need to work on ... it will only get better if you work on it. We aren’t promised an easy life. But we are promised an “Ever Present Help in times of trouble.” Psalm 46:1 *

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to still be amazing. Perfectionism is a joy stealer. Let’s determine to enjoy life right now in all its messiness. 🏠 Being a homemaker is such an important role. 🏠 Being a homemaker is such an important role. It’s a ministry to your family and all who enter your home. But I want you to know: You don’t have to be perfect. ❤️ There’s a fine line between teaching your children to be neat and insisting on perfection. No one can meet that kind of standard and it can be detrimental to the emotional health of your family. What we want for our homes is to provide a space that is neat and clean enough that your family and friends feel comfortable and well loved. There is freedom in accepting the fact that you’re not perfect. Not to make excuses for slovenliness - but to give yourself grace. It’s when we recognize our weakness that we find ourselves reaching out to Jesus to receive the power that comes only from him. As homemakers, when we can find grace for the moment when we accept His Gift. “But now for a brief moment grace has been shown from the LORD our God, to leave us an escaped remnant and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and grant us a little reviving in our bondage. Ezra 9:8 Let His Grace wash over you, cleanse your weary heart. Homemaking isn’t about creating a perfect space. It’s about creating a home where loved ones feel cared for and nurtured.

❤️Your attitude about homemaking matters.⠀
⠀
A homemaker by definition is someone who manages and makes a home. 🏠⠀
⠀
But, anyone can clean and organize a home. ⠀
⠀
☑️ Homemaking is about more than checking off the items on your to do list.⠀
⠀
Learning how to be a homemaker means you learn how to make your home feel like haven of peace and love. You seek out ways to make your home feel inviting. You work at it.⠀
⠀
There is no easy button for homemaking. There are easier, more efficient ways to do chores, but the chores still have to be done. If you live in a house, you will create the need for the house to be tidied every day and cleaned on a regular basis.⠀
⠀
Having the right attitude about homemaking is the first step in learning how to be a homemaker.⠀
⠀
The good news is, even if you’ve been struggling with your homemaking, you can always go to God and ask Him for help. ⠀
⠀
He sees the unseen work of your hands. And He loves you very, very much. He wants to help you succeed. ⠀

🙏 If you’ve found it difficult to have a regu 🙏 If you’ve found it difficult to have a regular time with Jesus every day, you’re not alone. Lots of busy Christian women struggle to find time for a daily prayer and devotion time. ⠀
⠀
But I still want to encourage you to start your day with God! ⠀
⠀
⏰ If it’s hard to spend 30 minutes in the morning for a quiet time, I want you to remember you can still begin your day with God – even if that means saying a short prayer before your feet hit the floor in the morning.⠀
⠀
✝️ I also want to encourage you to memorize this verse:⠀
⠀
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you.⠀
Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.” Psalm 143:8 📖⠀
⠀
In the morning you can recite this verse and say a prayer. It doesn’t have to take a long time. Although – if you do have time – you will be greatly blessed by spending more time in prayer and devotion.⠀
